RIPON (CBS13) – Ripon officers were able to save two dogs from drowning Friday morning.
Just before 8 a.m., a Ripon Public Works employee called police about two dogs that had gotten trapped in a canal north of Vermeulen Park.
Responding officers quickly located a German Shepherd and a St. Bernard treading water and pressed up against a metal grate in the canal. The officers say it was very apparent the dogs were drowning in the rapid moving waters.
Additional officers responded with rescue poles, and the dogs were able to be pulled from the water.
Both dogs were safely reunited with their owner at the scene.
